I went out to Florence, Italy for the Fearless Masters Photography conference where over 200 of the best wedding photographers in the world assembled. I got to do a short talk there on connecting with my couples which went down well (but the spaghetti carbonara went down even better…) One of the highlights of the 5 day trip was spending a couple of days doing some street photography before the conference started. I went out with Rafe, Jason & Dan (Dan Morris is one of the best street photographers around so this was a total privilege seeing him in action) We went out early in the morning and again just before sun down to get that beautiful Tuscan golden light. I tried to use it to make dynamic street images. We also tried out colour matching people with their surroundings. Because Italian people are so expressionate and are more embracing of PDA’s than us Brits there were also a lot of moments to capture on the streets.

Why is a wedding photographer like me showing a selection of images of his street photography work? Well street photography is like a training ground for weddings. You go in search of light, interesting compositions and moments. It helps me be creative and stay fresh. Then at weddings I can apply some of these principles that I’ve learnt and I do find that lots of my wedding work resembles some of my street work as a result. So here are a selection of images from my time in Florence. I hope you enjoy!
