Bertie & Sophie hosted a joyful, creative and unique wedding celebration at Le Domaine du Rey in the South of France. Their wedding was my fifth destination wedding in a row and my 400th wedding to date! To celebrate this landmark my Wife Kirsty made Bertie and Sophie a knitted version of their beautiful cat Smudge (who sadly couldn’t make it out to France) Let me share with you some of my favourite moments from the welcome party on the Friday night, the wedding on the Saturday and the petting zoo(!) on the Sunday
Olly was an absolute joy to work with. He captured the spirit of our wedding so naturally that looking through the photos feels like reliving the day. Guests kept remarking on how friendly and unobtrusive he was, yet he caught every moment – from the dance-floor energy to the tiniest glances. His eye for light and timing is extraordinary, and he made us feel completely at ease.
On the Friday night at Château de Saint Felix (down the road) there were garden games, there was a DJ on a bicycle, Bertie & Sophie gave a speech from a balcony at the Chateau then everyone followed the bike into the woods for a dance party!! I love it when weddings don’t conform to convention.
The wedding day happened at the stunning Le Domaine du Rey. The ceremony, down on the grass with views over the hills, was so personal to the couple and was led through by their Brother in law. Afterwards there was great music and during the cocktail hour I turned to Arran and Dave (my travel buddies) and said “everywhere I point the camera there are happy people smiling and laughing”. It was such a treat. In the evening we all sat on long banqueting tables in between lines of olive trees as the sun went down and then danced to a brilliant band.
On the final day we were all by the pool at Le Domaine du Rey. Some animals came to be petted for my first ever wedding petting zoo(!), people ate in the shade under the trees and then cooled off in the pool. Throughout the three days Bertie and Sophie were charming, really thoughtful and wonderful to photograph. I feel truly honoured to have captured this whole weekend.
